AS TOLD TO ZOSIA ROBERTS
In this issue of Reader’s House, we are thrilled to present an exclusive interview with A.M. Berkowitz, where she shares the heartfelt origins of her writing journey, the serendipitous creation of Gigglet, and her vision for spreading joy through her stories. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to her en- chanting world, this conversation offers a delightful glimpse into the mind of an author who truly understands the magic of childhood.
What inspired you to start writing children’s books and can you share the story behind the creation of your first book?
I have held a handful of professions in my life, and I am very proud of my time spent in corporate America. I have been with the same company for almost 25 years. This compa- ny helped raise me, helped me find my footing, and helped me uncover just how strong, resilient, and talented I truly am. That is until I discovered my passion for writing children’s books was undeniable and would happen whether or not it was in “my plan”. After feeling burnt out and uninspired with my day-to-day, I could feel myself falling into a ‘lack of creativity’ depression unlike anything I had ever experienced.

I grew up singing and was a trained operatic mezzo-soprano able to sing in 10 different languages. I was a long-time flutist and piccolo player, I was a drum major in a marching band. I played piano. I even performed as a Mariachi singer and flutist (I love Spanish, and singing in Spanish is the best!). I was always

What sets Berkowitz apart is her remarkable journey and the authenticity she brings to her work. A former operatic mezzo-soprano and corporate professional, she discovered
her passion for writing as a way to rekindle her creative spirit. This passion has since blossomed into a career that inspires countless children and parents alike. Her characters, like the effervescent Gigglet, leap off the page with charm and vitality, teaching valuable lessons while sparking endless giggles.
