Navigating the Studios of Excellence
Agafonova’s artistic evolution owes much to her time at the New PhotoSchool in 2019 and The Rodchenko Art School in 2023. Reflecting on these transformative years, she shares how her artistic journey shifted dramatically from commercial photography to deeply conceptual work. “Until 2019, I was engaged in commercial photography,” she recalls. “Visiting exhibitions sparked questions and a burning interest in contem- porary art. That led me to study art history and create my first photo project, [Broken People](https://agafoto.ru/brokenpeople).”
At the New PhotoSchool, she found like-minded peers and expanded her un- derstanding of photography as an art form. However, it wasn’t until her enrollment at Rodchenko’s School that her creative hori- zons truly opened. “The world became an open field for communication in an artistic language—where any object, ready-made
or created from any material, could become a form of expression,” she explains. This experience provided her the courage to experiment with diverse materials and techniques, transforming ideas into powerful installations.
