The café’s origins trace back to 1900 when Priamo Pellicci first started working here. Following her hus- band’s untimely death in 1931, Elide Pellicci single-handedly raised their seven children while running the café below. Elide’s legacy lives on, with her initial proudly displayed in chrome on the primrose-hued vitroglass fascia, and her portrait gracing the interior of the café. It’s a poignant reminder of the Pellicci family’s enduring presence in this establishment.
After Elide’s tenure, the business was taken over by Mr. Nevio Snr., who was born upstairs. Sadly, Mr. Nevio passed away in 2008, leaving his wife Maria to carry on the fam-
ily legacy. Maria, with her natural charisma and culinary skills honed since 1966, is the perfect successor to Elide. Alongside Maria, her son Nevio

Walking into Pellicci’s is like stepping into a time capsule. The café boasts an ornate panelled wooden decor, lovingly carved by Achille Capocci, a regular customer and tal- ented carpenter, in 1946. Such is the historical significance and exception- al craftsmanship of the interior that Pellicci’s has been awarded Grade II listed status by English Heritage.

Pellicci’s popularity is evident from the bustling mornings it witnesses. The café is particularly busy during breakfast hours, with people flocking in for their morning coffee and a side dish. The breakfast menu offers a variety of options, including the Clas- sic, Have the Lot (Meat), Vegie, and Have the Lot (Vegie). Additionally,
they serve American-style Pancakes with a choice of toppings such as fruit, maple syrup, or Nutella. The prices are reasonable, which further contrib- utes to the café’s widespread appeal. However, be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour during the busy mornings. Despite the wait, the food and experience at Pellicci’s are well worth it.

local community for over a century. Steeped in history and family tradi- tion, this café holds a special place in the hearts of both its regulars and newcomers.
If you’re looking for a recommen- dation, I suggest trying their coffee paired with either the Apple Crumble or Tiramisu. And if you’re in the mood for something extra special, don’t
miss out on their homemade pancakes topped with a scoop of ice cream. It’s a delightful treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
One thing to note is that the café is relatively small and does not have any branches. This adds to its charm and exclusivity, as you know you’re experiencing something truly unique and authentic.
E. Pellici is a must-visit café in East London. With its rich history, warm family atmosphere, and delicious offerings, it’s a place that continues to captivate and leave a lasting impres- sion on all who step through its doors.
