mind of a true literary visionary. Prepare to be inspired by her words, her wisdom, and her unwavering dedication to her craft.
What inspired you to create interconnected series within your contemporary romance novels, and how do you approach weaving those storylines together?
My masters is in marketing. When I started my first universe it felt right to interconnect the worlds to keep readers invested in the characters and the rest of the world around them.
I approach weaving the storylines together as I listen to my characters and look for open- ings to cross the worlds over. Many times the characters will show where they fit in and how to expand the universe they belong in.
How does your personal life and home environment influence your writing process and the themes you explore in your books?
I believe all my characters come from some facet of me or my family and friends around me. I have pulled from so many periods in my life and different experiences. For example, Neille’s mother in Brothers Black 1 was from my own experience. In addition, Wyatt from
that same book was written based on my hus- band and his support during that time. Bishop Moran from Love Notes was influenced from my love of music and from being a songwriter as well. All the songs in that book were written by me. In Calling On Quinn, Alicia’s driving skills were birthed from my love of cars and driving.
In Brothers Black: Wyatt the Heartbreaker, how did you develop the contrasting backgrounds and emotional struggles of Wyatt and Nellie, and what message do you hope readers take away from their journey together?
Wyatt’s family was born from a friendship I once had. Nellie is a lot like me. I may not want to speak up for myself at times but I’ll speak up to protect those I care for. As I stated previously. Nellie’s struggle with her mom came from the loss of my own mother. At the time, I needed an outlet to heal and Wyatt the Heartbreaker poured out.
As far as the message I hoped readers would take away. I always want to leave readers feeling like they have gained a family through my words. Nellie had to find herself before she could accept the love Wyatt and his family had to offer. She was lost and needed to find her way back to herself and home. Wyatt was misunderstood and at a point in his life where he knew there had to be more. Nellie brought that more and gave him someone to love and a reason to be happy and fulfilled.
As the first book in the Brothers Black Series, how does Wyatt the Heartbreaker connect to the Legally Bound Series,
and what can readers expect from the upcoming instalments in both series?
As you begin with the Legally Bound series you get to book 3 when you are introduced to the Black Brothers and their family. I don’t want to give too much away. But if you follow the read order it’s an enjoyable journey that comes full circle by the time you get to the eighth book in the Brothers Black series. You also find some surprises as the connection grows deeper in the 5.0 to 5.5 books in the Le- gally Bound series when everything begins to make sense and you understand how connect- ed these families are.
Both the Legally Bound and Brothers
Black series are complete and for my ten year anniversary in 2025, I will be spending a lot of time in this Universe adding titles to the other spin-off worlds that connect.
In Calling On Quinn, you introduce a significant turning point in both Quinn’s and Alicia’s lives. What inspired you
to explore themes of love and healing amidst such intense personal crises?
I loved Alicia and Quinn. I like to say I’m the author of words you can feel. What better way to reach for your feelings than to have a couple learn to love and heal in the process. Alicia had so much to offer as did Quinn. They just needed the right people to share their uniqueness with. They both thrived once they found each other and love. Yes, there is a lot going on around them but they figured it all out as they found their other halves within each other.
This version of Calling On Quinn features a new ending and plot. What motivated you to revisit this story, and how does the revised narrative enhance the characters’ journeys?
I wasn’t happy with the original version. It wasn’t what I wanted. Readers wanted me to finish the series and I couldn’t the way it was. I needed to go back to my original thoughts and plan. I needed to be authentic to me. The revised version tells the real story. It gives both characters the voices they came to me with and what they wanted to happen. It’s their journey as intended.
